How to Install Google Analytics GA4 and Retrieve Your Measurement ID

If you are operating Google Ads or are working with a pay-per-click ads vendor, typically they want to see conversion tracking to understand the data of what ads are working. The video below explains how to start a GA4 account, or if you already have a GA4 account, how to get the measurement ID and send it to us.

Step 1: Start  Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (watch video)

  • Under Enhanced Measurement, we suggest selecting Form Interactions to ON.
  • We highly suggest starting a Google Tag Manager account, and not using the Google Tag supplied by Google Ads.
  • If you had a previous installation of Google Analytics, you need to comment on your site (2:15 in video) "Please remove all previous Google Analytic Script codes). If this is not done, your new GA4 Measurement will potentially not work.

Step 2: Setup Google Tag Manager Tracking

  • Important! Please follow these instructions on setting Google Tag Manager for Custom Event Triggers.

Warning!

Google Tag Manager is very specific in tracking and typically requires a skilled user to setup properly on the Google side. Incorrect setup on the Google Tag Manager side will result in a non-functioning tracking.

Detailers Roadmap does not offer pay per click services at this time, and is not responsible for properly setting up a GTM account. It is highly recommended to work with a specialist familiar with GTM tracking that knows how to use non-server side installations.

Step 3: - Email Script Code or G-# / GTM-# to Us

  • Once tracking is setup, please email the provided G-# and GTM-# from Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
  • Email: Subject: Your Website Name - Code Install to webdev@8bitcreative.com

Traditional Google Analytics (UA-#) is being phased out. The new GA4 measurement ID is all that you will need moving forward. It takes up to 24 hours to see measured traffic through the website. It is not instanaeous.
